Bargains are a great thing to lay your hands on, especially when it comes to known expensive real estate, but as ole timers might say, don"t bet on another mans game. Aside from pictures and videos, which can be enhanced or out right lied about, there is not much evidence to go on, unless you make a trip to personally view the property and structures yourself. If you"re seriously considering buying an online piece of real estate, you need to examine a few issues. For example, what about the deed and title to the property, are they clearly deeded and owned by the seller? Are there any other encumbrances on the land and or home, such as inheritance claims, foreclosure actions, or mortgage and bank claims? Also, is the property a land locked area where no building or road frontage is available. How well has the property and any structures associated with it been maintained? Consider too that certain utilities might not be available for lands that are remote. In other words, if you want to build is there enough property to dig for a well, or to install a septic system because of local ordnances governing such activity? These are just a few of the issues that you will encounter when purchasing real estate through an online auction.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- House Republicans deferred to Gov. Matt Blunt on Thursday, endorsing the economic development package he outlined while refusing to even allow discussion on various Democratic efforts to tinker with its details. Democrats decried majority Republicans for using heavy-handed tactics, claiming lawmakers were ceding their constitutional power to make laws to the executive branch and reducing the special legislative session to a sham. The House passed an economic development bill creating up to $66 million in new tax credits for businesses and developers and legalizing ticket scalping. Many Democrats ultimately joined in the 120-29 vote sending the bill to the Senate for consideration next week. Lawmakers are convened in special session at the call of Blunt, who last month vetoed a broader economic development bill that he claimed could have cost up to $200 million while awarding tax breaks to some questionable causes.

Dean makes last landfall, weakens.
Hurricane Dean restrengthened to Category 2 intensity Wednesday and swept Mexico"s Gulf Coast with rain and 100-mph wind as its core slammed into the coast for the final time. Then, it moved inland and lost its punch, demoted to a tropical storm at 5 p.m. EDT. Forecasters warned, however, that its rain still posed a serious threat to residents of inland mountains and valleys. The second landfall Mexico came near the town of Tecolutla, just east of Gutierrez Zamora and about 40 miles south-southeast of Tuxpan. About 135,000 people live in the area around Tuxpan, including 79,000 within the city itself. Troops and emergency workers already had ushered thousands of residents to inland shelters. More than 100 oil rigs and related facilities had been evacuated.

Ultimate Electronics Inc. announced Wednesday that its Tulsa store has been chosen to roll out the chain"s major appliance division. More than 350 washers and dryers, refrigerators, above-range microwaves, ranges, ovens and dishwashers will be for sale starting Sept. 1, said the Thornton, Colo.-based retailer. The new lines soon will be available in Ultimate Electronics" two Oklahoma City stores, the company said, and in its remaining 29 stores in eight other states early next year. The Tulsa store at 10021 E. 71st St. is being remodeled to accommodate the added merchandise, said David Smith, senior vice president of marketing. The renovation will add 10,000 square feet of space, and when construction is completed the store will have 33,000 square feet.

London luxury home prices soar amid demand.
Luxury home prices in London climbed at a record monthly pace in July as buyers competed for a smaller number of properties, real estate broker Knight Frank said. The average price of the most expensive houses and apartments rose by an average of 3.9 percent last month from June, according to data compiled by London-based Knight Frank. The annual increase was more than 36 percent, the highest since Margaret Thatcher came to power in 1979. 'Add into the mix rising domestic wealth and rising foreign wealth coming into the country, we can see why prices have risen strongly,' said Liam Bailey, Knight Frank head of residential research. The company forecast a gain of 25 percent for all of 2007. Investment bankers and hedge fund managers with bonuses to spend are vying with rich individuals from Asia, the Middle East and Russia for a shrinking supply of prime real estate in central London.

David Katz of CIBC said in a client note that he expects the company"s positive outlook for next year to limit the impact of late 2007 filings. He views the 2008 guidance as indicative of greater product acceptance and improved profits. 'We believe that the outstanding filings, which are expected in September, become less meaningful with the initiation of 2008 guidance,' Katz wrote. He boosted his rating on Bally Technologies stock to 'Sector Outperform' from 'Sector Perform' and increased his price target to $35 from $28. Katz also raised his 2007 earnings estimate by 2 cents to 30 cents per share and 2008 estimate by 23 cents to $1.47 per share. The estimates include stock-based compensation costs. Shares of Bally Technologies added $4.48, or 16.3 percent, to $31.83 in morning trading, down slightly from the new high of $32.25 reached earlier in the session.
